Reporting to the Senior Manager - Sports Programs this role is the leader of the MSA Basketball Program and is offered as a 0.4 - 0.5 time fraction. Please note the role can be combined with a PE teaching role within Maribyrnong College to become a full time position - teacher application must be submitted via the DET HR website. THE ROLE OF HEAD BASKETBALL COACH WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: - To develop and deliver a high-performance Basketball program for student-athletes (Years 7 - 12) which compliments and supports the Basketball Talent Pathway programs.
- To support student-athletes in balancing their sporting aspirations and their education (with the aim of all Basketball student-athletes completing their VCE).
- Establish and maintain strong professional relationships and communication with all stakeholders (external clubs/coaches, parents and carers, Representative Clubs, Basketball Victoria, etc.)
- Manage and mentor assistant coaches via our coach development proformas to jointly deliver the program.
- Monitoring new developments in the field of coaching and sports science specific to Basketball and implement where appropriate.
- Set and enforce minimum standards for the program which are consistent with the overall cultural expectations for all student-athletes within the MSA program.
- Create an environment of continuous improvement in athletes and coaches within the program.
- Collaborate with MSA Strength & Conditioning, Rehab and Sports Science staff to ensure best outcomes for student-athletes.
- Lead the Basketball trial process for prospective MSA Basketball student-athletes (Year 7 - 12).
- Ensure the welfare of the athletes is maintained by ensuring that they are aware of the support structures available to them and encourage a harmonious group environment by liaising with all team members, other coaches, the college and parents / carers. SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing athlete learning. Demonstrated experience in using data to inform coaching practice and providing feedback on athlete learning growth and achievement.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships.
- Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department and College / Academy values.
- Demonstrated personal and professional abilities to develop talented / emerging Basketball or elite players within the system.
- Experience in managing a talent pathway / elite program including athletes and assistant coaches.
