Assistant Coach, Women's Program - Centre of Excellence

WHAT IS THE ROLE The Assistant Coach (AC) will play a key support role to the Head Coach to deliver inclusive, contemporary coaching to Australia’s junior female elite athletes at the (residential program) Centre of Excellence, supporting their daily progression toward becoming future Opals. Th AC will deliver on court programs aligned with the Athlete Development Framework, What it Takes to Win and the Win Well Strategy, ensuring young female athletes thrive in a world-class environment. The AC plays a vital role in developing athletes’ performance and wellbeing, fostering a safe, supportive, and high-performance culture where every athlete can excel and be themselves. This role is one of the most unique and exciting coaching opportunities in Australia! To be emersed in the daily performance enviroment and impact the development of Australia's elite junior female athletes as they strive to develop to acheive success on the international basketball stage. Overarching Responsbilities (see PD for more information)

• Support the Head Coach in delivering a holistic, high-performance basektball program and environment for elite female athletes (16–19 years).
• Daily on-court basketball coaching for individuals, small groups, and team sessions.
• Implement Individual Athlete Development Plans
• Use performance technologies (e.g., SportsCode, HUDL) for scouting and athlete evaluation.
• Provide respectful, honest, evidence based, balanced feedback to enhance performance while maintaining safe relationships.
• Collaborate with performance support teams and education providers to deliver tailored programs.
• Maintain accurate records in the Athlete Management System.
• Communicate openly and professionally with athletes, parents, teachers, and support networks regarding plans and wellbeing.
• Build strong relationships with AIS performance staff, State/Territory High Performance Programs, and coaches.
• Represent BA positively at national events, including Australian Junior Championships, and contribute to the national coaching network.
• Advocate for women’s basketball and the CoE program with passion and integrity

Required Skills, experience and capability

• Relevant BA or FIBA Coach Accreditation Associate level
• Basketball coaching experience at State representative level of minimum 3 years in a female program a nd/or recent elite athlete playing experience would also be highly considered.
• Experienced in performance technology (including game review platforms) that impacts the high performance environment is preferred
• Sound knowledge or experience of Basketball Australia’s talent pathway
• Technical knowledge or personal experience in relation to individual and team principles including techniques, coaching trends and international development at women’s elite level.

Position Information

• The position in on site at the Centre of Excellence, Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Bruce, ACT
• Full time position
• Fixed term to the end of 2028
• Due to the nature of the program there is an expectation of reasonable additional hours and working on weekends. This is managed within the BA Leave Policy.
• Current Working with Children clearance and full security clearance required by the AIS - ACT requirements
• Current right to work in Australia is required.
• Regular domestic travel and limited international travel may be required
